The Grimdark Files Update - What I have been reading what are you reading?

Hello everyone, how is everyone? It has been a busy couple of weeks for me and so this update is a little bit late :( Boy oh boy it has been a fantasy filled month for January and I have read some fantastic books! Pictured is my recently read and current reading so here we go!

First of all I would like to give a massive shout out to Melissa A Joy, she is is the author of Keys of the Origin book 1 of The Scions of Balance. This has been of one of my favourite books of this year! I have thoroughly enjoyed this masterful work of fantasy, this is beautifully described fantasy world that is worthy of your attention. I am thoroughly looking forward to book 2 and to more from this author, a full review of Keys of the Origin will be on the blog very soon.

Next, I have finished a book that I have wanted to read for some time! The Shadow of What Was Lost by James Islington is epic in every sense, this is a huge novel that establishes a wonderfully constructed world with a very cool magic system. May people have compared this series and author to Robert Jordan and in some ways I would agree, but not all, I will expand on this ona full review of this epic work on my blog.

Now on to my current reading, I have been thoroughly enjoying Veiled Intentions: Book two of The Dragons Blade by Michael R Miller. This really deepens the world that Michael established in The Reborn King. New Characters and new locations are introduced, more lore and history are revealed. I loved the first book and am really enjoying the second, if you have not read any of Michael R Millers books then please treat yourself. Book 1 id available now and book two is available in two days time!

Next is an author who needs no introduction! I have been very lucky to have been given a Advance Readers Copy of Red Sister, book 1 of the Ancestor by Mark Lawrence. Laura M Hughes has called this one of the best books of 2017 and so far I may be in agreement with her. There is a beauty to Mark Lawrence's writing that makes it truly something to read, this so far a dark, gripping and grim tale. A new story, heroine and world, Mark Lawrence I take my hat of to you. This book releases in April so be prepared fora new book from the one of the best fantasy writer writing today!

That's all from me, what I have read and I am reading, what have you read? Let me know in the comments so that we can discuss the wonderful genre that is fantasy.

Happy Reading.
